From October 10 to 12, 2023, the first nationwide CDR-Dialog will take place at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. It is being organized by scientists from the CDRterra research programme – which is investigating land-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and coordinated by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich. Around 150 participants from research, business, politics and education from all over Germany will come together to lay the knowledge foundation for how CO₂ can be effectively removed from the atmosphere in Germany. After all, in order to meet the climate targets of the Paris Agreement, we must not only drastically reduce emissions but also remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. What challenges is CDR currently facing in this country and how can we overcome them?
As part of a virtual PRESS ROUND TABLE on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., we would like to offer journalists the opportunity to discuss CDR and climate education with renowned German experts from the CDRterra research program:
- Prof. Dr. Julia Pongratz, Spokesperson of CDRterra and Professor at the Department of Geography, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
- Dr. Jessica Strefler, Senior Scientist Carbon Management, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)
- Matthias Honegger, Head of the CO₂ Removal Business Unit, Perspectives Climate Research, Freiburg
- Dr. Katrin Geneuss, Head of the CDRterra education program and coordinator of the sustainability program “el mundo”, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
We would like to invite you to the CDR-Dialog and the Press Round Table. We would also be happy to help you arrange individual interview appointments with these and other experts and speakers at the CDR-Dialog.
We look forward to receiving your registration by Monday, September 25, 2023 at: karin.adolph@lmu.de.
The number of participants is limited.
More about the CDR -Dialog 2023
As part of the CDR -Dialogue 2023, the BMBF research program CDRterra brings together stakeholders from science, business, politics and education to put the topic of CO₂ removal from the atmosphere on the social and political agenda. It serves as a central platform for public discussion on CDR in Germany.
Its three pillars are:
- the CDR Education Conference – where teachers and other stakeholders from the education sector work together with researchers to develop ways of integrating CDR into the classroom;
- the “CDR Stakeholder Workshop” to involve non-governmental organizations, think tanks and associations; and
- the “CDR Science Workshop” for scientific exchange within the CDRterra research programme.
Other highlights include the panel discussion with representatives from politics, business and associations on the topic of “Hurdles and challenges in CDR – how can Germany make faster progress?” and the presentations by CDRterra researchers at the hybrid lecture series “Wissenschaft für Jedermann” at the Deutsches Museum.
