CCS in Germany

Removing CO₂ from the atmosphere and storing it underground is one much discussed method to mitigate global climate change. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is also possible in Germany. But is it really necessary to achieve climate neutrality? “If CCS serves as an excuse not to phase out coal in the long term, then we won’t have gained anything,” says CDRterra scientist Dr. Jessica Strefler of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
