📌 ICD Pavilion, Blue Zone

“Ocean-based carbon dioxide removal – panacea or threat?”

Is Ocean-based Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) a mitigation and marine protection panacea, or does it threaten ecosystems and global governance? The panel explores ethical, scientific, and policy implications of emerging proposals of ocean-based carbon removal technologies and practices. It aims to shed light on the connection between ocean carbon and the unproven potential of sequestering carbon to achieve its removal from the atmosphere – from a scientific, climate governance, as well as a critical market and regulatory perspective.
