Webinar: CDR needs debate

© Julia Pongratz
How can carbon dioxide removal (CDR) be anchored in society? This question is the focus of a CDRterra webinar on June 4, 2025 from 14:00 to 15:00. CDR will be necessary to achieve the climate targets – but there is still no broad societal discussion about it. The webinar will address this challenge and provide ideas for an open, informed and fair debate on the topic.
The starting point is CDRterra’s new policy brief, which formulates specific recommendations on information, participation and policy design. In the webinar, our experts will provide insights into key statements from the policy brief and discuss with participants why CDR is not just a technical challenge, but above all a social one.
Focus of the webinar:
- Why a public debate on CDR is needed now
- How participation succeeds and trust is created
- What politics and research can contribute to social anchoring
With following CDRterra experts:
- Dr. Juliane El Zohbi from GERICS – Climate Service Centre Germany
Researcher in the CDRSynTra project on the use of CO2 removal in agriculture - Dr. Maximilian Witting from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich
Researcher in the STEPSEC project on the potential and limits of land-based CO2 removal - Dr. Nils Matzner from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) & the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research Leipzig (UFZ)
